Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte Getting A Little Salty Over The Attention Being Paid Jeremy Langford

For the last couple weeks the Chicago Bears have been forced to lean on rookie Jeremy Langford in the backfield with Matt Forte out with a knee injury. In that time he has been quite productive with 324 total yards and three touchdowns. It is still up in the air whether Forte will make his way back to the field this week. He is pain free, but still needs the swelling in his knee to go down.

With the way Langford is producing it is not likely the team will put him back on the field until he is 100 percent. However, the longer he is out the more people will not want him back--and that angers him.

Forte spoke with the local media recently and didn't sound too happy with how people were so willing to jump on the Langford bandwagon and toss him to the curb:

His frustrations are understandable, but such is the business side of the NFL. Teams will always be looking for a cheaper option. If they have a player under his rookie contract playing as well as an older guy making $7 million a year and looking for more they are going to go with the younger player every time.

It has nothing to do with a lack of loyalty. It is the business side of the NFL.

To Forte's credit, he has not acted like the soon to be former lover jealous of the younger, prettier girl taking his place. He has been helping Langford prepare just like a good teammate should.

Forte will be 30 before next season so some teams will be leery about signing him because of his age and the soon to be expected drop off. So while he'll get a job (should the Bears let him walk) he will likely not make anywhere close to what he has made with the Bears.

  1. "not make anywhere close to what he has made with the Bears" - that's just crazy. He was leading the league in rushing when he got hurt. He's quietly been one of the top 5 backs in the league his whole career.
He would be a HUGE pickup for a playoff team.

    1. No one is going to put big money into a 30-year old running back who will now be seen as having healthy issues. They'll pay him, but if he does get anywhere near $7 million it will be heavy on incentives.
