Adrian Peterson and Other Possible Record Breaking Performances

This season has been chock full of record breaking performances. Calvin Johnson has already broken the single-season record for yards receiving; Sunday he'll look to shatter it by  becoming the first player to crack the 2,000 yard barrier in NFL history. When he does so with a performance of 108 yards or more this week he'll also hold the record for most 100+ yard games in a single season.

His record has been the most notable to date, but it will not be the last, Adrian Peterson has a shot at breaking the single season rushing record. He will need a monster day in order to reach it, but when the man is determined he has proven that he can pull off some pretty incredible stuff.

So don't count him out!

There are a number of other records that have already been broken and others that could still fall on Sunday.  Some of them are a little obscure, but just for posterity sake here are all the ones that have fallen and the ones that still might:

- Detroit's Mathew Stafford will shatter the single season passing attempts record (691); he currently has 685.
- Houston's J.J.Watt and San Francisco's Aldon Smith could break the single season sack record (22.5). Watt has 20.5 and Smith 19.5.
- Vikings kicker Blair Walsh already owns the record for most field goals of 50 or more yards with nine.
- Andrew Luck has already reset the single season passing record that he will add onto against the Texans; he also owns the record for most passing attempts by a rookie as well and will break the record for most completions Sunday as well.
- Dallas tight end Jason Witten broke the record for most catches by a tight end (102) last week with his 103rd in OT.
- Green Bays Randall Cobb could break the single season all-purpose yards record. He has 2348; the record is 2696. Hard--but not impossible.
-Saints punter Thomas Morehead will break the net punting yards record of 43.99 yards unless the team totally screws it up this week.
-Cardinals punter Dave Zastudil broke the record for most punts inside the 20 after kicking six last week; has 44.
- Jets return man Jeremy Kerley is looking to break the record for most fair catches; needs just one
- Robert Griffin III is likely going to break the record for highest passer rating for a rookie unless he totally tanks it against the Cowboys. If he does Russell Wilson has a shot at it.
- RG3 could also break the record for highest completion percentage for a rookie and the lowest percentage of passes intercepted.
- With two TD passes Wilson breaks the rookie TD passing record.
- Janoris Jenkins needs one pick six to break the record; he currently has three.
- Redskins kicker Kai Forbath broke the record for most consecutive field goals to start a career (17 and counting).

Like I said, some are big; others are not so big. When the guys are talking about them on Monday though, now you'll know.
