And the No. 1 Pick in the 2013 NFL Draft Goes to...

Losing sucks.

There is not anything good about it. You can't walk away feeling good about the last three hours of your life after losing. You can't really feel as if you did a good job--you lost. Had you done a good job the scoreboard would be saying something different, right?

Some folks like to point to the silver lining that comes with the cloud of losing, but does anyone want to listen to those 'glass half-full' types after dropping another game? I know I don't.

However....maybe those folks are not crazy, annoyingly optimistic people after all. Maybe there is a method to the madness of their never ending, Ned Flanders like attitudes. Maybe it's the knowledge that salvation could be just a year away courtesy of the No. 1 pick in the next draft.

You know--the door prize to the team that stunk it up the most in the current NFL season.

After seeing what the right person can do for a franchise this year (thank you Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III) the bottom dwellers of the NFL have to be a little bit eager to get to next season. Maybe with the right pick they too can climb out of the cellar in just one season...

With both the No. 1 and No. 2 pick turning their teams around this season it may seem like getting the No.1 is not that big a deal. There have been some solid No. 2 picks in recent years like Calvin Johnson, Von Miller, and Ndamukong Suh among others.

There are also guys that were not so great. Ronnie Brown was good, but never became the game-changer you want with that early of a pick. Reggie Bush was a flop with the Saints, but the Dolphins are pretty happy with him.

Let's not forget the most infamous No. 2 in draft history--Ryan Leaf. Need I say more?

There is danger that comes with any pick, but the hope is that with the No. 1 a team should have more hope than others that the end of the bad times is near. Of course the team has to make the right pick...

Anyway...this season there are two contestants for the No. 1 pick still alive (thanks to being dead so much the other 16 weeks)--the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars.

For fans hoping to get the No. 1 pick next year the race could come down to the end. Neither team is a guaranteed loser.

Kansas City takes on Denver in Denver. You would think that would be a no-brainer, right? Denver should walk all over the Chiefs, right?

Kansas City did manage to run for over 350 yards on the ground last week in Indianapolis. The best way to beat Peyton Manning is to not give the time on the field to find his rhythm;  something he has needed this season more than any other. Should they actually be able  to run against the Broncos this could be the case...

Then again we are talking about running against a defense like the Colts (one of the not so good ones in the league) against one of the best in Denver...

Jacksonville showed some chops last week by giving the New England Patriots all they could handle. Chad Henne has shown some promise at times since being handed the reigns of the offense, a fact made more shocking without a good running game to help out.

They may not have a difficult task ahead of them compared to what KC has. The Titans are on the verge of being bottom dwellers themselves. Chris Johnson can't decide if he wants to be the stud that ran for 2000+ yards or some loud mouth that wants to blame his shortcomings on everyone else. Jake Locker hasn't exactly inspired confidence either.

Should the Jags be able to shut down the Titans early and actually score themselves Tennessee might revert to the team that got destroyed last week by Green Bay. Then again, the Jags are nothing like Green Bay...

Should both lose it will come down to the strength of schedule to decide who will get the first pick. I could tell you who has the weaker of the two, but that will take away one of the posts I'm planning on writing tomorrow!
