Military Bowl (Dec 27): San Jose State 29 Bowling Green 20
Just a couple years ago the San Jose State Spartans sucked. How else do you describe a team that was 1-12 before Mike MacIntyre took over? MacIntyre has now moved on to Colorado leaving defensive coordinator Kent Baer to lead the team in the Military Bowl against Bowling Green.
The Spartans were not much for running (-15 for the game), but with their passing game that didn't matter. San Jose State Quarterback David Fales made Baer look good completing 33 of 43 passes for 395 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the team to victory.
Belk Bowl (Dec 27): Cincinnati 48 Duke 34
This was a crazy one chock full of big plays, but hey--you want coaches to go all out for the last win of the season, right?
Duke looked like it was going to win a bowl game for the first time in over half of a century. They racked up a ton of yards and first downs; practically moved the ball at will. However, in the end four turnovers killed them as they saw this one slip away in the end.
Holiday Bowl (Dec 27): Baylor 49 UCLA 26
If you thought that Baylor was like Auburn and would fall from grace after losing its Heisman winner to the NFL the Holiday Bowl stands as proof that Baylor is going to be just fine.
The Bears got on top of the Bruins early en route to a 35-10 halftime lead before coasting in the second half and winning 49-26. Pretty much all your major players for the Bears had a solid day: RG3's replacement, Nick Florence broke his single season passing record; Lache Seastrunk backed up his claim that he'd be Heisman worthy. The only problem might be Glasgow Martin taking away too many careers from Seastrunk.
See my recent post on the Bears for more details on this game.
