Alabama Blows Away Notre Dame for Third National Title in Four Years

The spread was a long one. There were not too many that thought the Fighting Irish had a fighting chance against the Crimson Tide.

As it turns out they were right--the final score was Alabama 42 Notre Dame 14.

Notre Dame looked ill-prepared for the big stage that they were on Monday night. Manti Te'o missed more tackles tonight then he had all season. The much-feared front seven was gashed repeatedly by the 'Tide running backs; T.J Yeldon and Eddie Lacy cleared the 100-yard barrier. Whenever A.J. McCarron tried to pass he had little trouble hitting his mark.

Ugh. It was bad Notre Dame. (This is the only clip you'll need to watch to catch all the highlights of the game.)

Alabama did what it needed to do to prove to the nation that they deserved to be the national champs in this one. The word dominance comes to mind; as a fan that hopes the final game of the college football season is a good one--the word boring comes to mind. This looked more like one of those crappy early season games where one team is trying to fine tune things and doesn't want to have to worry about the other team actually being competitive.

This will definitely kick start a few talks about how the four-team playoff is a necessity. Then again I'm not so sure that Florida or Oregon could have beaten the Irish. Both of those teams had trouble with tough defensive teams.

So maybe Alabama was just that da*n good.

Congratulations on a great season Notre Dame, and better luck next year.
