The last BCS National Title game went nothing like fans hoped. It appeared as if the Fighting Irish forgot how to do something for most of the game--fight.
It got so bad (the lack of fight) that the Alabama offense had to resort to hitting each other in order to feel a little contact during the game. [Sorry Notre Dame fans, but you have to admit, the guys looked pretty bad out there tonight]
About midway through the final quarter with a healthy 28-point lead quarterback A.J. McCarron and center Barrett Jones got into a bit of fight between plays. It appears that McCarron wanted the ball snapped while Jones was still calling out blocking assignments.
The snap did not come in time, and--oh, just watch:
This is the kind of thing that happens when your players are so competitive and such perfectionist
that mistakes--even with a 28-point lead--are unacceptable. If I was there coach I think I would be a little proud at this moment.
On another note, Jones revealed something pretty interesting in a post game interview. Apparently he played with a LisFranc injury in his foot. If you watch the NFL much you'll remember that this is the injury that has cost a few guys their seasons in recent years, most notably Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub last season.
And he played a full game with this thing. If I was a GM I would love this guys toughness, but this injury is going to take a whole lot of time to heal from after surgery. He may not be ready for the start of the NFL season next year.
