Catching Up With the Bowl Games: Liberty and Music City

Liberty Bowl (Dec 31): Tulsa 31     Iowa State 17

This looked bad for Tulsa at first. Iowa State was in control of the game for the first quarter en route to a 17-7 lead at the start of the second, but then then the Golden Hurricane remembered that it is much stronger force of nature than some silly Cyclone.

With the help of a good running game and a dominant pass rush Tulsa took over the game. Junior Trey Watts did most of the work carrying the ball 25 times for 149 yards, but it was senior Alex Singleton that felt the love in the end zone. He only gained 35 yards in 15 carries, but three of them went for touchdowns.

Tulsa scored 24 unanswered points to run away with this one.

Music City Bowl (Dec 31): Vanderbilt 38     NC State 24

This was a special day for the Commodores. With a win they could do something the school had not done scine 1917--finish the season with nine wins. For a lot of the big name scholls this kind of goal would be laughable, but for Vanderbilt it has been unattainable.

Until New Year's Eve.

Most of the heavy work was done in the second quarter. The Wolf Pack had a little trouble getting it together on offense fumbling once, throwing an interception, and punting. Luckily the scored on their other possession; Tobias Palmer was ind enough to return a kick off 94 yards for a touchdown as well.

Vanderbilt really made the most of it scoring touchdowns on three of five drives to take a 28-14 lead into the half.
