Catching Up With the Bowl Games: Chick-fil-A and Sun

Chick-fil-A Bowl (Dec 31): LSU 24     Clemson 25

This was easily the best game of the bowl season to date. Both teams played well and after one half it really looked like it was anyone's game. However in the second half this one became all about the defense.

LSU couln't do anything against Clemson's D. Of their seven second half drives four of them were 3-and-outs. Were it not for one big play to start the half and a Clemson fumble to set up a field goal LSu would have been effectively shut down in the second half.

For Clemson it was a matter of whether they could completely break LSU defense in time. They gined just 18 yards in the third quarter on four drives, but when it mattered most in the final quarter quarterback Taj Boyd got the job done.

Chandler Catanzaro finished off the upset with a 37-yard field goal as time expired to give Clemson the win.

Sun Bowl (Dec 31): USC 7     Georgia Tech 7

I started off watching this one, but turned it off. It was dull. Throughout the week there were rumors that USC was bad mouthing El Paso and not showing up to functions on time. There focus was not there at all; they seemed to care less that the team was in a bowl game after being banned for the last couple seasons (thanks Reggie Bush).

They played the same way. They seemed to take as much interest in karaoke night. Hopefully USC will have a little more pride next season.

Georgia Tech did what they do--run, run, and run some more. Yawn.
