After years of teetering on the edge the Texas Rangers appeared to
step into greatness with back to back trips to the World Series.
Going into
last season there was every reason to believe that the third time was going to
be the charm, and for much of the season it appeared like that was the case.
In spite of several injuries to the pitching staff the team was still
in position to win their third straight division title, a first in franchise
history, but a late season slump opened the door for the Oakland Athletics who
were more than happy to step right through.
What followed has been a
tumultuous off-season that saw the Rangers power gutted. Josh Hamilton left for
their division rival, the Angels. Mike Napoli is now in Boston. Michael Young,
even though his role had been reduced was still an integral part of the team,
was traded to Philadelphia. Nelson Cruz
could be lost for 50 games if anything comes from the PED investigation into
