On Saturday Team USA got overshadowed by the brawl that went down in the Mexico/Canada game (hey-it was the first of the tournament--ever--so don't be shocked). It could also be because the U.S. actually did what they are supposed to do--win.
It did take some heroics from one of their stars, David Wright. The third basemen for the New York Mets hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to give the U.S. a 6-2 lead (which was the final).
For some odd reason the U.S. does not seem to put its best foot forward in world competitions like the World Baseball Classic; the way R.A. Dickey got shelled in their first game is evidence of that.
Even though the best in the world happen to play within the U.S. and call the U.S. home we just don't seem to care too much about winning things where only pride matters.
