Rugby Tries to Show NFL and Other Sports How to Bring Game to Fans with RefCam

This idea is just cool. The recent sevens tournament held in Las Vegas used something like this to give people a unique, on-field look at the action. It wasn't some sort of aerial camera; there was nothing hanging from wires or flying overhead.

Well, it was overhead; or more the side of the head to be specific. I'm talking about the RefCam.

Officials in a rugby league in Australia have been trying out these earpiece camera during games with the idea of bringing the fans and league officials a whole new view of the game.

Theoretically speaking the idea is genius. The view will be a different one for fans to see, and could give them a lot more insight into the game when they can see it from the ref's point of view. The league can see if their refs are in the right position more often than not. Coaches can get an on-field look at their players like they have never had before as well.

Sounds like a win-win. So come on NFL. What are you waiting for?
