Russian Show Takes MMA to a Whole New Level

What's better than one pair of fighters going at it in an MMA match? How about two pairs of fighters going at it--and at the same time?!

That's what the Russian television show called the Hip Show is doing.

The format of the show is pretty simple. Teams of two enter the fight area, which is not just your average generic ring/octagon. It's more of a padded obstacle course.

Okay--this doesn't happen in this video, but can you just imagine someone doing some sort of flying kick off a pad and connecting with someone? I might have to subscribe to their YouTube channel just to see that!

Anyway...

Fights go three round at two minutes a round with a 90 second rest in between. In the first two there are no joint locks or choke holds, but in the final round anything is fair game. Should one guy submit or get KO'd leaving his partner alone the round is only one minute long.

How you win is pretty cut and dry. Knock your opponents out or get them both to submit and you win. I don't know how you get points, but earn more than the other and you win.

Where it gets interesting though is hen it becomes a 1 vs. 2. Should the one survive his team wins.

The fight rules are essentially in line with international MMA rules and regs, but if you want to see more of the specifics you can go here.

From the clip here the show appears to be pretty intense. I don't Dana White; if ticket sales ever start to drop off something like this could be pretty cool...
