There May Be Hope For Vince Young's Career After All

The Texas Longhorns had a few standout players at their recent pro day. One of them was a bit older than the rest and there was a sense of 'been there, done that' when he was on the field. I'm talking about former Longhorn great Vince Young.

Young's tale is a sad one. After leading Texas to the national title during the 2005 season he appeared destined for greatness in the NFL, but immaturity led to conflicts with head coach Jeff Fisher in Tennessee. Tack on erratic production on the field and his days were numbered.

While he has had some great performances on the field they were not enough to overshadow his off-field issues and he spent last season out of football after being cut by the Buffalo Bills in training camp.

Word is that he had a great showing at the UT Pro Day, but it remains to be seen if anyone is going to want to take a chance on a 29-year old quarterback with baggage. If you believe what he says the old, immature Vince is gone, but how many guys have tried to say that only to disappoint in the end?

Then again, Kurt Warner didn't get his shot till he was 27; Adam 'Pacman' Jones is an even better example. Sometimes guys just aren't ready when they are younger, skill-wise or maturity. For league minimum it would not be surprising to see someone give him a shot
