With four starts under his belt this season it may be a little early to call it, but I think it is safe to say that Yu is having far from a sophomore slump. Yeah, yeah, I know its early to say that; he could stink it up the rest of the way--but they have been really good starts.
Friday against Seattle the Japanese phenom was at it again pitching seven shutout innings allowing just three hits, three walks, and striking out 10. Not bad right?
This game falls right in line with the rest of his starts this season. He started it off coming within an out of a perfect game to open the season, striking out 14 along the way. That was followed up by a decent, but shaky outing against the Angels (6 hits, 4 walks, 3 earned runs, and 6 Ks over 5 innings) and a solid one in Seattle (3 hits, 1 walk, 3 earned runs, and 8 Ks).
Is all just numbers to you and a little meaningless? Let me put it into perspective for you-- his 38 Ks lead the league, his ERA is 2.03, teams are only hitting .144, for you fantasy folks his WHIP is just .79, and he has won three of his four starts.
Yeah, no sophomore slump here.
