Baltimore's Chris Davis Caps Off a Record Setting First Half With Home Run No. 37

There is little chance that Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis will set a new single season home run record, but that doesn't mean there are not other marks he can set. With home run No. 37 against the Toronto BLue Jays Sunday he did just that.

With a two-run shot in the third inning Davis hit home run No. 37 tying him with one of the greatest baseball players to ever play the game, Mr. October himself--Reggie Jackson, for the most home runs hit prior to the All-Star break in the AL.

Pretty darn good company, right? It doesn't stop there.

Thanks to a two RBI double in the first inning and his home run Davis now has 93 RBIs making him the second player in history to hit 30+ home runs and 90+RBIs before the All-Star break.  

The first guy to do it was Miguel Cabrera who accomplished the feat just a few nights earlier when he hit home run No. 30 Thursday night. He now has 95 RBIs; Davis has 93.

Assuming Davis doesn't fall victim to the Home Run Derby Curse the two sluggers could be setting up for a pretty interesting race to a possible Triple Crown. It would of course take a lot for Cabrera to overcome Davis's home run lead and for Davis in turn to overcome Cabrera's batting average.

But it will be fun to watch!
