'72 Miami Dolphins Honored at the White House

They are the only team in the history of the NFL to go undefeated, and yet they never got to do something that many, many other teams have--visit and be honored at the White House.

That all changed Tuesday when the 1972 Miami Dolphins got their moment in the sun 40 years late.

The obvious question is why did it not happen way back then when it was supposed to? How was the first (and 40 years later only) undefeated team not given their moment at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? Well, there was actually a pretty good reason.

Ole Tricky Dick, Richard Nixon, was in office at the time and had his hands full with that whole Watergate scandal. So yeah-- he was kind of busy and not in a mood to entertain at the time.

That's okay. President Obama is such a big sports fan you know he doesn't mind. The visit has to be even better for the athletes when their host is not just the leader of the free world, but a real big fan as well.

Obama clearly is.
