Vince Young to Sign One-Year Deal With Green Bay Packers

It's been a long rough road for former Texas Longhorns quarterback Vince Young, but it looks like the work might be paying off. Rumor has it that Young was able to impress the coaches in Green Bay during his workout today, and they are going to sign him to a one-year contract.

In Young, Green Bay gets the chance to have a veteran back-up for Aaron Rodgers. His two backups were former Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell and a 2012 seventh round pick out of Chattanooga, B.J. Coleman.

Of course with Young there is some old baggage to deal with. His tenure with the Titans involved several run-ins with Head Coach Jeff Fisher as well as some run-ins with the law. He recently had to auction off some of his belongings in order to settle a $1.7 million debt.

The Packers are well aware of all his troubles of course just like they are aware of his public apology to his former Head Coach Jeff Fisher for his behavior back in the day. He also went back to school and graduated.

When it comes down to it he is an inexpensive gamble that the Packers need to make. Championship caliber teams have been derailed because starting quarterbacks have gotten hurt and the back-ups were not capable of filling in. In Young they get a player that has been there and done that. The question with him will be whether he has the maturity to handle the tough times and be more consistent.

For what will likely be a league minimum contract with no guarantees it will not hurt to find out.
