Oregon Ducks Going With Pink Helmets for Washington State Game

The University of Oregon has become almost as well known for its many fashion-forward uniforms as it's high-powered offense. This weekend against Washington State it's going to be wearing another new one, and this time its pink.

In honor of breast cancer awareness the Ducks will be breaking out the pink gear, but there efforts are going to extend beyond just raising awareness. They hope to raise a good chunk of change too. Starting on Saturday five pink helmets will be auctioned off with funds going to aid the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Kay Yow is a former coach for the women's basketball team at North Carolina State. She coached the team for over 30 years before passing away due to breast cancer in 2009.

"Cancer has touched so many lives and hopefully, together with Nike and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, we can help create awareness and help raise money for the fight against women's cancers," Oregon coach Mark Helfrich said in a statement. "It is an honor to join coach Yow's team in a fight that unites us all."

Five helmets will be auctioned for five days in a row bringing the total to 25 when all is said and done with. In case the cause alone is not enough to encourage fans to bid some of the helmets will be autographed by past Oregon greats like Joey Harrington and Dan Fouts.
