There is no such thing as a good time for injuries of course, but to get one at the tail end of the season--well, that just sucks. For a guy like Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith even more so because his team will be playing for the division title and a first round bye in the playoffs.
Smith also happens to be 34 and may not have too many chances--if any--to get back to post season play. So it really sucks for him!

If the team was playing to get into the post season I would imagine that he'd try to play, but since they are already in it is not imperative that they win.
Head Coach Ron Rivera has said that should the Panthers lose he expects Smith would be able to go next week, but another week off (two if he doesn't practice the week leading up the game) would certainly help. For Smith to be a real weapon in the playoffs he'll need the extra time off.
