Is Charlie Strong Going to be the ‘In Between’ Guy for the Longhorns?

Charlie Strong has a tough job to do, and I don’t mean just getting the team ready to play next season. No—he has to replace Mack Brown.

When the Texas Longhorns announced that Charlie Strong there were some that though the hire was a great one and many like Red McCombs that were not so excited about it. McCombs, like many others, wanted to hire a big name and there were many that were tossed around.

However, when the search was all said and done it was Charlie Strong that came out on top. Not Jimbo Fisher, Gus Malzahn, Jim Mora, Art Briles, or any of host of coaches from big name programs with lengthy resumes, but someone who has had just one head coaching job and was only in it for four years.

So—did they settle for Strong?

That is a question that we will never know the answer to. There were rumors that Jim Mora was offered the job but turned it down to stay at UCLA and a number of coaches went public stating their intention to stay right where they were. Now many of them were at big name programs already, but in Texas you have the most profitable program in the nation.

Who would not want to coach there?....
