A.J. McCarron Taking the Wrong Page Out of Johnny Manziel's Playbook

Both are good quarterbacks. Both are talented individuals. Both deserve to be drafted by NFL teams. But....in spite of his track record, his national championships, and fairly clean reputation A.J. McCarron is firmly entrenched as the other guy.

That's not something anyone wants to be.

A.J. has said some things in the past that folks thought were questionable (remember the ESPY's? the demonic Grammy's performances?), and those got some interest online. As a college kid when that was all he was doing folks laughed at it but than forgot it.

His latest snafu may not be as easily forgotten. After denying that he had anything to do with a reality show around his coming wedding it appears that is not the case. He was lying--and his agent outed him.
“There is not actually a reality tv show as of yet. The initial article that came out yesterday was very premature as AJ and Katherine are listening to pitches from a number of production companies and networks about a potential show but there is not actually a “show” to talk about yet.”
So unlike what A.J. claimed he is involved in it. Being involved in a reality show is a distraction that no player let alone rookie should be involved in. If he is/was going to do it the last thing he should do is lie about it.

So where does the Manziel connection come in?

Johnny Football made the most of the limelight after his redshirt freshman season. He was literally everywhere and it has helped make him a household name (for good and bad). A.J. didn't really do that in college; he was all about football (like Manziel is now).

Now McCarron is making the most of his stock outside of football like Manziel did after his Heisman season. It's understandable and smart to capitalize on your name while you are still a hot commodity (and before you get lost on an NFL team's roster as a back-up).

He just shouldn't have lied about it.

Manziel was all about living the life after his freshman season, but is now all about football. McCarron was all about football and is now looking to live the life.

Not good A.J. Not good at all.
