Jim Thome is an Early Frontrunner For Worst First Pitch of the Season

When guys are done playing baseball for a living they are hardly ever done with the game. It is pretty common to see former players called upon to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at MLB and minor league parks across the country. They are an obvious choice because of name recognition, but you'd think also because as former players they'll be able to get the ball over the plate.

However, as we have learned watching guys like Jim Thome and Nolan Ryan that is not necessarily the case.

Thome was in Charlotte for the grand opening of the Charlotte Knights new stadium, and well---his throw was pretty horrible. It kind of reminds me of Ricky Vaughn before he got glasses (wild to say the least).

Is his the worst of this young season though?

I'd have to say yes. To be fair he was a designated hitter for most of his career and never had to throw much. Nolan Ryan was a pitcher, but the man is also in his 60s. Thome just retired in 2012 (he should be in better shape).
