Should Tim Duncan Retire if the San Antonio Spurs Win the Championship?

Tim Duncan has had a stellar career with the San Antonio Spurs. He's a four-time NBA champ; three-time Finals MVP; two-time league MVP--the list of accolades could go on and on. With what he's accomplished and at the tender age of 37 you have to think the dreaded 'R' word is going to be uttered soon.

I'm talking about retirement of course.

It's something that fans hate to see happen. If it was up to them they'd see their favorite stars play forever. Some try to--until their bodies give out on them. You want to play as long as you can, but you don't want to play too long and become a medical mess after you retire.

Lots of guys will use the excuse "I just want to win a title." In Duncan's case he's won four already leaving nothing to be proven still, but there is a good chance that he could add another when this season is over.

So--should he call it quits if the Spurs do win it?

After Game One he mentioned having another couple of playoff runs in him making it sound like this season will not be his last.

On one hand that's great for the fans who want to see him back, but with five titles on his belt should he? He's a shoe-in for the Hall of Fame as soon as he's eligible. He can't do anything that he hasn't done already. He still has his health.

Yeah, there is love of the game, but when does being practical and walking away while you can still walk out weigh the love?

I suppose we'll find out whenever Tim does retire.
