As could be expected--fans were not too happy with Bedford and tried to zing him back. However none of them were nearly as successful as Johnny's agent, Erik Burkhardt.
Monday morning Burkhardt sent this gem out into the world:
@CoachBedfordUT has been in "All-American Conference" the last 4 yrs. I wish him luck. Better learn how to coach in a real conference.
— Erik Burkhardt (@ErikBurkhardt) May 5, 2014
Zing!
Bedford supporters were quick to point out that he has coached at Michigan, Florida, and in the NFL before in an attempt to disqualify Burkhardt's jab. To which many pointed out that he was only a position coach and that he didn't last at any of them.
To be fair, the life of a position coach can be somewhat nomadic as new head coaches come in and bring their own guys (but it's not unusual for quality assistants to be kept on as well). However, his stint as a coordinator in the Big 12 wasn't exactly a resounding success, but at Louisville he was alright.
Don't you just love this rivalry stuff?
