Marqise Lee Stands to Make More Than Some First Round Picks Next Season

Marqise Lee was expected to be one of the top wide receivers taken in the draft after the kind of season he had in 2012. It was a good enough season that he went ahead and took out an insurance policy; one that protected against a career ending injury and loss of value.

As it turns out, doing so could make him a cool $4.4 million since he didn't go until the second round.

It's pretty common for players to take out insurance against a career ending injury, but not loss of value. After his 2012 season he was projected to go in the top 10, and even though he was injured for much of the '13 season he was still considered a first round pick.

Instead he ended up slipping in to the second round where Jacksonville ended up snatching him up. If you believe the rumors it was all because many teams were scared off by his knee injury. Should he be able to prove it he will seriously supplement his income in his first season:

Of course the hard part is going to be proving that is why teams didn't pick him, but if he does expect to see a number of guys take out similar policies next season.
