Former Dallas Cowboys Defensive Lineman Josh Brent Released From Jail; Headed to Rehab?

It may seem kind of crazy, but former Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Josh Brent is done serving the jail sentence he received for killing his friend and teammate Jerry Brown in a drunk driving accident.

He walked away from jail on Sunday a few weeks short of finishing his 180 day sentence.

The immediate question on the minds of many is whether the Cowboys are going to sign since they do need help on the defensive line.

What folks should be asking is why he was released early. Lawyers for Brent had asked the judge on Friday if he could be released early (roughly six weeks) in order to receive treatment at a rehab facility.

Comments from the district attorney sounded as if there was not going to be any resistance to the idea.

So--was that why he was released? We don't know yet--but I imagine we will find out soon.
