Penn State Recruit Picks Nittany Lions Because He Likes the Recruiting Class

High school football recruits pick what college they are going to play for due to a variety of reasons; some rational (close to home, chance for playing time, etc.) and some not so rational (bottle of whiskey, awesome parties, hot coeds, etc.). Do you hear of many choosing a school because of the rest of the recruiting class? And not because it sucks?

Well--that's why a New Jersey high school player--RB/DB Myles Hartfield--chose Penn State.

Over the weekend Hartfield committed to the Nittany Lions while camping at the school. Rutgers was considered his other finalist, but Pitt, Syracuse, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Purdue and Old Dominion had also expressed interest in him.

In the end, he liked what he saw in the rest of the class of 2015 and in new head coach James Frankin (via NJ.com):

"Coach Franklin, he said once you commit to me we're engaged. So I'm engaged, right now. It's great. He said once you shake my hand all the recruiting is over. So I shook his hand, I'm a man of my word and it's over. I'm just so happy to be a part of the We Are family."

The site 247Sports has the Nittany Lions ranked No. 3 in the nation for the class of 2015.

Things like this have to make the Penn State faithful happy. To have a quality player commit because of the coach and the quality of his teammates--and competition--speak volumes about the program.

Exactly the kind of thing they hoped would happen more often when Franklin came on board.
