Petition Request Obama Make Thursday a National Holiday So Fans Can Watch USMNT Take on Germany

Ratings for Sunday's USMNT game against Portugal were among the best ever for a World Cup game on ESPN. In fact with an estimated 18.2 million viewers (24.7 million between ESPN and Univision) it is the highest rated non-football broadcast ever for the network. So it sure is a shame that Thursday's pivotal contest against Germany is not going to come even close.

Most folks will be stuck at work. That is, unless President Obama listens to the people and steps in....

A petition on the White House site 'We the People' has requested that the president do the country a favor and make Thursday a holiday so that people do not have to miss the game.

The petition is short and sweet:
On Thursday June 26th the United States faces Germany with a trip to the knockout stages of the world cup on the line. Americans all over this great country won't get to see that game, won't get to enjoy the fraternity of their fellow citizens because it is scheduled for the middle of the day.

We'll be sneaking out for long lunches, refreshing browsers, calling in sick.

You can save everybody the trouble. Make thursday a holiday. Let's do this thing right and all stop what we're doing and watch the game together.

Thanks,

America.

After all, he wants a U.S. team to be supported, right? He doesn't wasn't Americans to lose their jobs because they fake being sick to get out of work?

Well--does he?

As of late Monday night the petition only has a couple thousand signatures. If you want to help hit the required 100,000--because you know Obama will grant this request--go here.

The game is scheduled to start at noon on ESPN.
