Pinch Hitting For the Oakland Athletics--Relief Pitcher Sean Doolittle?

Occasionally when a game goes in to extra innings teams will run out of pitchers and be forced to turn to one of the position players to finish the game. Sunday against the Red Sox the A's were in a similar situation, but instead of calling upon a position player to pitch...

They needed a pitcher to hit.

Rest easy Oakland fans. It wasn't because the team wanted to--it didn't have a choice. Thanks to injuries and earlier subs the team was out of batters it could sub in and had no choice but to go with a pitcher.

So they called on Sean Doolittle who is arguably the best reliever in the game right now. In his first Major League at-bat the team wanted him to get on base with two outs in the bottom of the tenth and down by one.

No pressure--but he wasn't able to pull it out for his team.
