Marion Barber was a perfect example of a player that was built for being a part of a running back by committee. He was strong and powerful, but not the kind of guy that was going to break ankles or anything. That being said, the man was toughness personified on the field and he proved that hear by refusing to go down no matter who hit him.
It would have been nice if he didn't retreat as far as he did, but since he made it past the line of scrimmage it's okay.
