Brazil Loses Neymar for Remainder of World Cup Due to Fractured Vertebrae

Non-soccer fans that have seen coverage of Brazil soccer star Neymar rolling around the ground in pain after taking a knee to the back probably all thought one thing--and it wasn't very nice. After all, these guys are the kings of flopping (sorry LeBron, in this case you are only a prince). So this guys is just turning it up a notch, right?

As it turns out--no.

The team has announced that he will be out for the remainder of the World Cup with a fractured vertebrae. Team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar had this to say to Brazil's SportTV (via BBC):

"Unfortunately, he's not going to be able to play. It's not serious in the sense that it doesn't need surgery, but he'll need to immobilise it to recover."

So hold off on the jokes armchair athletes. This one sounds legitimate.

You hate to see it happen, but an injury could end up having a major impact on who wins the World Cup. With a semi-final match coming up against a tough Germany team it will be interesting to see how Brazil tries to compensate for losing its leading scorer.
