So Much for the Hometown Discount From Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson

The Green Bay Packers have a bargain on their hands in wide receiver Jordy Nelson. As the No. 1 option for Aaron Rodgers last season he set new career highs in receptions (85) and yards (1314). With numbers like that if the Packers don't pay him after his contract runs out at the end of the coming season someone else will.

It's a good thing the Packers will not have to break the bank for him--that is as long as the bank has at least $10 million a season for him.

Word spread like wildfire over the World Wide Web Thursday that Nelson wanted $10 million a season. This caught a lot of people by surprise since Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White had just signed  four-year extension valued at $30 million.

What is eve more surprising is that he is even making demands like this in the first place when just a few weeks ago he said that the team does not need to break the bank for him:

“What I got in that last deal, I’ll never spend it all anyway,” Nelson said in early June. “So I’m not worried about it.”

His last deal was a three-year extension for $12.6 million.

After the season he had last year no one can fault him for wanting more money (he deserves it). However, if he was going to demand a base that would put him among the top four wide receivers in the league he shouldn't have said he wasn't worried about it.

Now he looks like a hypocrite.
