In a nut shell it sounds like he may have hit a guy that was on the track on purpose.

From what I've been able to gather, Stewart spun the other driver--Kevin Ward--out and his car flipped a couple times. Ward got out of his car and approached Stewart's. At that time Stewart hit the gas and struck Ward with his car.

**UPDATE**: One witness tells me they DO NOT believe Tony Stewart hit the driver intentionally, but rather swerved to get out of his way.
