A Critique of Antonio Brown's Infamous Karate Kick/Attempted Hurdle by a Certified USA Track and Field Coach

By now even if you are not a football fan--or of any other sport--you've at least heard of the kick Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown gave to the punter of the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Popular opinion on the kick is he was attempting to hurdle Spencer Lanning, but clearly faile miserably in his attempt.

So--what went wrong?

via Bleacher Report

Dan Myers, a certified USA Track and Field Coach in Zionsville, IN, had this to say about Brown's attempted hurdle:
As a coach, here’s how I break down his hurdling technique: High knee w/ dorsiflexion on the front leg, nice forward lean at the hips, arms in tight (no flappy arms), good back leg technique. I think he took off a *tad* too soon though which causes his front foot to catch the hurdle.
So--if this football thing doesn't work out for you Antonio Brown with a little coaching it sounds like you could make a decent hurdler (Dan is available for private sessions).
