Are the Miami Dolphins a Contender With Knowshon Moreno Running the Ball?

When the Denver Broncos did not try real hard to resign running back Knowshon Moreno it didn't come as much of a surprise. Prior to the arrival of Peyton Manning he was shaping up to be a injury-prone bust hence the team drafting Montee Ball out of Wisconsin. The Broncos liked what they saw in Bell enough to say goodbye to Moreno.

While Denver is doing fine with Ball after one game it looks like Miami is doing even better with Moreno.

After being out with an injury for much of the preseason with an injury he did not get the chance to earn the starting job, but after running for 134 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries against the New England Patriots Sunday he certainly took a big step in that direction.

Even if Lamar Miller remains the official starter after a day like he had against the Patriots the Dolphins will give him the lion share of the carries again. Should he produce again it would be surprising if he didn't move up the depth chart.

But what if he continues to do so?

What could that mean for the Dolphins?

Could they be...dare I say--contenders in the AFC East?

Ryan Tannehill is a good quarterback, but at this point in his career he needs help to get the job done. He has good wide receivers, but not great ones (time will tell what Mike Wallace will be). At the time he has no one that really frightens defenses.

So in order to back defenses off of him a little he needs a good running game; one that teams will have to respect. When they do it gives Tannehill a little more breathing room to work his magic.

Should he be able to do that there is no telling how good the Dolphins could be.
