Could the Kentucky Wildcats Actually Be Good at Football Now?

If you want to talk about the elite of college basketball the Kentucky Wildcats are going to be in the forefront of the conversation. However, when it comes to football they have historically been far from elite. They've been okay from time to time, but no where near elite. This season they still aren't, but it looks like they could be one thing they have not been in sometime.

Good.

Ever since Mark Stoops took over the program from Joker Phillips there has been a buzz surrounding the team. Could it in part have been because of his last name and hopes he could be a lot like his brother in Oklahoma? Maybe, but while that may create an initial buzz it is not going to maintain it.

There has to be a reason for hope and optimism to become the new norm. Renovated facilties certainly help. Whatever it is that Stoops is doing fans and alumni can only hope that it continues.

Recruiting has improved. The 2013 class he inherited from Phillips ranked 29th. His first full season of recruiting saw Stoops and his staff pull in the 17th ranked class.

As for the product on the field, his tenure got off to a rough start last year with a 2-10 record, but so far this season the Wildcats are undefeated. They haven't just won--they've dominated their opponents outscoring them 79-17.

Results don't lie. The team has looked good on the field. So is it safe to say they are?

Not yet. Their opponents were not exactly powerhouses (UT-Martin and Ohio), but should they beat a Florida team looking to rebound from a disaster of a season last year can we?

Yes. If they beat Florida we can talk about it.
