Jameis Winston May Have Given Clemson the Opening it Needs to Upset Florida State

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston is discovering that college may not be as fun as he thought it was going to be. Seriously, what's wrong with standing on top of a table and yelling something sexually explicit? Umm...Jameis there is plenty wrong with it and not just because you're a public figure and the face of the national champions.

As a result of it, head coach Jimbo Fisher the university has decided to suspend the quarterback for the first half of Saturday's game against No. 22 Clemson

Is it a smart move with a ranked opponent up next? From a football perspective maybe not, but it is the right thing to do for the team and the university. It's also the right thing to do though for a player that is still being investigated by the university for sexual assault and was busted for stealing during the summer.

Should it be a big thing? No. It was a stupid joke directed at no one. Since he has a history of making poor decisions and is a public figure it is. It will become an even bigger one should Clemson pull off the upset and take the Seminoles down.

Florida State has not looked the greatest so far this season. The team was clearly working through some growing pains against Oklahoma State as it tried to work in some new starters, and it lookd down right sloppy at times against the Citadel.

They should have clobbered them, but instead the score was just 37-12 (and not because FSU quit trying).

Clemson is also working in some new players and may be doing a slightly better job than the Seminoles so far. The first half against a tough Georgia team looked good before the experience of the Bulldogs (aka Todd Gurley) took the game over in the second. Against South Carolina State the team looked like it worked some kinks out clobbering the poor Bulldogs 73-7.

The trouble with judging any team at this point is that we really don't know who they are yet because they don't know. Kinks are still getting worked out, players are still getting acclimated to increased game time, and adjustments for injuries have to be made.

So losing your starting quarterback for one half against a good Clemson team is less than ideal for FSU. It becomes especially problematic when his back-up has 144 career passing yards and two touchdowns and interceptions to his name.

The door is open Clemson. The question now is wheter you are going to walk through it.

  1. Fisher didn't suspend anyone. Obviously he doesn't have it in him. The University suspended him. Fisher wouldn't suspend him for something like this if he didn't do it for theft, rape, etc.
