Rugby Players Don't Mess Around When it Comes to Tackling [GIFs]

Early this morning I was thumbing through Reddit looking for some ideas when I came across a couple of GIFs from two different rugby games. Both were of a player getting tackled, but one (the poster of the second one) actually had the audacity to refer to the other (the first one) as 'normal' and nothing special.

I couldn't help but think they are both a heck of a lot better than this pathetic attempt at tackling Aqib Talib made in the preseason.

All he did was hit the guy and the guy fell down. Real men wrap up when they tackle. Like the prop in the above GIF that swallowed the poor ball carrier and like how the flanker and 8-man attempt in the one below.

While at first I thought the poster was right; that the second one was a better hit than the first. On second thought it isn't. For those that are not aware, rugby is a continuous game with few stops in play (penlaties, ball goes out). One of the biggest keys to the game--much like football--is posessession.

The runner in the second sees he is about to get clobbered by two guys so he starts to turn his body in hopes of setting up his team for a ruck or maul--both methods of gaining/maintaining possession. Now I don't know if his team did that, but even though he was getting smacked he controlled the whole play.

So good job--but the prop in the first one made the better hit.
