Auburn Survives High Scoring Game With South Carolina [GIF]

When Auburn lost to Mississippi State last week the worry that had to be in the back of the minds of the coaching staff was whether their would be a hangover the following week against South Carolina. While the Gamecocks are not the contender they were envisioned to be before the season started the worst mistake they could make would be not bringing their 'A' game against a Steve Spurrier coached team.

That nearly appeared to be the case.

South Carolina quarterback Dylan Thompson 402 yard passing and five touchdowns. Mike Davis had a pretty good day on the ground with 88 yards and also hauled in six passed from Thompson for 8 yards and a touchdown.

Davis also threw three interceptions on the day. Were it not for those and one fumble the Auburn defense could only claim one stop on the day (on downs late in the fourth).

Good thing is the running game worked like a charm (395 yards total) and kept the South Carolina offense off the field.

They will need that running game to get going next week when they take on Ole Miss and the stingy Rebels defense (10.5 points/game--best in the nation).
