PHOTO: The Stake That Got the Michigan State Spartans All Riled Up

When Jeremy Langford plunged in from five-yards out to give the Michigan State Spartans a 35-11 lead with 28 seconds to go in the game there were some that wondered what the heck was going on, Yeah, they are rivals and don't like each other, but to run the score up? Even among rivals it's not a very classy move.

However, it appears that the Spartans had a reason for it.

It seems that one of the Michigan players took a stake and planted it in the Spartans field. Whether he was trying to 'mark his territory' or cause someone on the grounds crew to stub a toe is kind of  a mystery.

That's it.

Michigan State took it as disrespectful so they decided to return the favor with Langford's third touchdown of the day:
