Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson Announces New Domestic Violence Initiative on Derek Jeter's New Website

New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter wasted no time getting his post-baseball life started the other day when he announced the launch of a new website, the Players' Tribune. The hope is that through it athletes can present themselves through their own words and not have to worry about journalist and bloggers misinterpretting them or twisting them in to something they are not.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has jumped on board with Jeter, and has already posted his first story.

In it he gives readers some insight in to what he was like growing up. It's a really good read, but to make the long story short he admitted to being a bully.

And he seems like such a nice guy, right?

He goes on to credit finding his faith at the age of 14 to turning his life around. Again--great read. When you have the time I'd highly recommend reading it.

Along with telling his own story he talked about the ongoing issue of domestic violence in NFL as well as society. Through his foundation, the Why Not You Foundation, he announced a new intiative he is callinf Pass the Peace:

From Players' Tribune:
The idea behind Pass the Peace is simple: It’s a promise. I’m sharing my love for you. I want to take care of you. I am here for you....
...When you Pass the Peace to a friend, I ask that you make a $2 donation or more to The National Domestic Violence Hotline. It couldn’t be easier. Simply text WNYPassThePeace to 41444 to make your contribution. For more information, please visit www.whynotyoufoundation.com.
A lot of players are starting to speak out about domestic violence since the topic has dominated headlines in the NFL this season. Some cynical people (aka haters) online have accused some of those guys of trying to use the pain of others to promote themselves.

To those folks I say this--who cares why the are doing it? Fact is they are using their time, celebrity and reosurces to do something good. They deserve or applause and nothing more.'

So instead of hating try passing the peace instead.
