St. Louis Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher Still Has Big Brass Ones

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher has never been one to back down from a challenge. He does not play it safe. If he has a player that can't get it together and fall in line he has no problem calling him out no matter how big his star is (right Vince Young?). He's one of those guys that plays to win, and if that means you have to take a risk or two along the way he says bring it.

In short--the man has some pretty big brass ones (just not while beating up his water cup).

He certainly proved it Sunday against the defending Super Bowl champions when he decided to go for a rather crazy punt return about midway through the second quarter.

With a 14-3 lead most coaches would have gone with the traditional return and let their offense get to work. Fisher knows that his offense is not good enough to go toe to toe with the Seattle defense. So he could do one of two things: play to win or do what everyone expects.

That play alone proves that he's got brass ones, but had it not worked it wouldn't have meant much. As long as they didn't fumble the ball away they still would have had possession and still could have scored.

What his brass ones big though is the call he made towards the end of the game while grasping on to a two-point lead.

Who on Earth goes for a fake punt with a two-point lead and three minutes on the clock? The logic is not hard to follow. Give the ball back to Russell Wilson with that much time and he'll figure out how to score and leave you no time to comeback. Fail and you practically guarantee a loss since Seattle has a solid field goal kicker and they are already in easy range.

When you are working with your third quarterback and you've only won one game you have to do what you have to do.
