WATCH: Houston Texans DL J.J. Watt Took Dallas Cowboys OL Tyron Smith to School

One of the most common inquires I've seen on message boards and forums in relation to the Texans-Cowboys game has been how the battle between Houston's J.J. Watt did against Dallas' Tyron Smith. The comments have been all over the place, but rather than try and explain one way or the other I thought I'd just present some visual evidence instead,

Allow me to present Exhibit A:

And Exhibit B:

Maybe Smith got him on some other plays. Maybe some of the other linemen managed him too. But at least on these two plays Watt absolutely smoked Smith.

  1. Sure enough... You're right on your exhibit B, but your Exhibit A is way off. Watch the play in its entirety... Smith *releases* Watt to be picked up by the running back because he was expecting a blitz from a linebacker or safety that never happened. Sometimes you guess right, and sometimes you don't, but releasing a defender to handle a second-level defender is actually designed and not "being smoked." Sorry...

And if those are the only two plays you can find, then it's pretty clear that Smith and the offensive line in general *owned* Watt this week. I'm a fan of the guy, but sometimes you're the anteater, and sometime you're the ant.

    1. So because he doesn't include 30 images of Watt smoking the Dallas o-line they must have owned him? That logic is dumber than saying Jerry Jones is a genius GM if the Cowboys win the Super Bowl. Idiot.

    2. No one in their right mind would release Watt to a running back on purpose. That's just stupid.

    3. Let's get real, get out under that rock you've been hiding out in, or in this case, under...

Watt, as badash as he is, was shut down for 98.8% of his plays. Yeah, he was the one "smoked"!! He was so frustrated he missed such an easy sack on Room. Look at the overall game stats.. Watt had what?, 1pressure n 1 hit??! Come on guys, in ur character-flaws, you attack a guy 1st, before being peaking at the facts, sheesshh!!

    4. ESPN lists him as having four tackles for the game so you might want to take a look at the stats before you start crying about them. Fact is both teams played well. Smith and Watt played well. Both teams were supposed to suck this season but they actually appear legit. God bless Texas.

    5. Tackles??? Dude...I'm talking about QB sacks, hits n pressures. Its obvious what I was talking about. Ur desperately reaching, and coming up empty! Course Watt had tkls, sheesshh... None the less, QB sacks, hits, n pressures, directly correlates to beating the OL, which when everything is said n done, they shut him down, whether it was 1-on-1 or with 2/chips...Cowboys OL shut Watt out, n done... : )

    6. You are clearly an NFL God that sees only Cowboy Blue and does not know how the game actually works. Most defensive lineman don't have crazy stat lines because it is there job to make the linebackers look awesome. That's why the stat sheets are filled with LBs and DBs with a few DL scattered in. Watt is an unusual one that happens to create stats from time to time--but since you know so much that's not news to you. Both played well so who cares. Cowboys won and that's all that matters anyway. Now its done.

  2. Smith stands there after watt passes him in A. Looks like he turns around and watches the play even. So it doesn't look like watt was released at all. Smith got beat. Nice try though.
