Playing special teams takes a non-stop, 100-MPH engine that doesn't stop till its sitting on the bench with a cup of Gatorade. However, to be good at it and not make stupid mistakes you also have to be able to exercise some control over that engine. For example, when a player calls for a fair catch you don't hit him.

If he didn't know that before the above play his coach certainly must have made it clear when he got to the sideline.
