They did earlier in the day Sunday when they tossed Luke Kuechly and Erik Walden, but did not toss Steve Smith! With Peyton Manning going for Brett Favre's record they decided to make sure that he would get it

Was it an accident that the ref happened to advance in to the lane of the defender covering Emmanuel Sanders and slip? Was it a shoddy field? Was it a banana peal that none of us could see?
