When football fans think of the Miami Dolphins historically the defense is not what comes to mind. Yes, the 'Fins have had some good units and some really good players in the past, but defense and Dolphins have just not been two words often put together in a favorable way.
That is not the case this season.
Half way through the season the Dolphins have the No. 3 overall defense in the league (No. 3 scoring; No. 2 against the pass; No. 12 against the run). The units prowess was definitely on display last Sunday against the Chargers when the unit held Phillip Rivers and company to 128 yards passing and a mere 50 rushing.
They also handed the Chargers their first shutout in 15 years.
As fast and hard as the Dolphins defense has been playing and with Ryan Tannehill finally finding his groove the AFC East could very well have a new champion this season.
