Could Julio Jones Break Calvin Johnson's Single Season Receiving Mark?

It has not been a happy season for fans of the Atlanta Falcons. Yes, they still could make the post season, but there is no way they actually advance past the first round. So that doesn't leave fans much of a reason to watch, but thanks to Julio Jones they may still have one.

Jones has a shot at breaking Calvin Johnson's single season receiving record.

After setting a franchise record Monday night with 259 yards his season total is up to 1428 yards. With three games to go he will need 537 yards to break Megatron's record (1,964 yards). That averages out to 179 yards a game.

Hmm...not a chance in hell, right? Come on. He's only had six games of 100+ yards this season and with a hip injury bothering him now if he does play he will not be even close to 100 percent. Even if he was healthy having one game like that incredible let alone three.

So why do some folks believe it might happen?

The Falcons do not have much else on offense that is actually working right now. Matt Ryan has thrown it to him 29 times the last two weeks, 22 of which he caught. Tack on three sub-par pass defenses in Pittsburgh, New Orleans, and Carolina and the opportunity will be there for Ryan to chuck it to Jones all day if he wants to.

With nothing else to play for why not?
