Hmmm...Could it be the coach lied about Trickett's health to force the Aggies to spend time preparing for both Trickett and Skyler Howard? The answer appears to be yes.

West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen said quarterback Clint Trickett has been cleared to play in the Liberty Bowl after being sidelined with a concussion.
But Holgorsen said sophomore Skyler Howard's impressive play will put the quarterback rotation up for grabs as the Mountaineers (7-5) prepare to meet Texas A&M (7-5) on Dec. 29 in Memphis, Tenn.Hmmm...so how does a player go from being cleared to play to retiring from the game? Easy--he doesn't. While talking to the press after making his announcement Friday Trickett stated that he had not been cleared and knew he was done the last time he visited the doctors:
From what Trickett said it doesn't sound like he was ever anywhere near being cleared--but Holgorsen said he was.
The obvious defense to his lie is that he did state a decision on who would play would be a game time one, but lets be real here. Trickett is a much better passer and an experienced leader. Howard has played in just three games and has only one start under his belt.
Even though he said both have played well Trickett is by far the better quarterback. Besides--it would have been his last college game. There is no way any coach would deny a talented player like Trickett that.
In the end their is no real defense. Holgorsen said Trickett was cleared, but by Clint's own words that never happened.
Holgorsen lied.
