Rose Bowl Refs Take a Touchdown Off the Board to See if Oregon Had Already Scored One [GIFs]

It did not take long for the officials in the Rose Bowl to make the first questionable call of the day. About midway through the first quarter Oregon wide receiver took a pitch from Marcus Marriota and almost made it in to the end zone thanks to a dramatic dive for the goal line. The ball was called short though so the Ducks lined up and ran it in on the next play.

But then that was called back.

Apparently the replay booth had buzzed down to say they were reviewing the previous play by Nelson to see if he had scored. So the refs waived off the touchdown to see if the other play was a touchdown.

I suppose you want to give credit where credit is due, but otherwise what a waste of time.

Sure enough, it wasn't a penalty (gee) so the refs essentially called back a touchdown to tell the Ducks they had not scored a touchdown on the previous play.

So what do the Ducks do? They go for two on the point after.
