Some of the Oregon Ducks Tried to Leave Without Shaking Hands With the Buckeyes

After the Rose Bowl it was the scandal of all scandals. A number of the Florida State players were seen leaving the field without shaking the hands of the team that had just destroyed them. ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit was in a tizzy for days and the internet trolls let the Seminoles have it even after word spread they were told by game officials to do what they were being blasted for.

It hasn't gotten much attention, but it appears that many of the Oregon Ducks tried to do the same thing after Monday night's loss. Perhaps it is because of the key word there--tried.

Ducks linebacker Derrick Malone noticed a bunch of the younger guys walking off the field without shaking hands with the Buckeyes. He could have just shaken a few hands and left the field himself, but instead he chased after the guys leaving and told them to turn around.

"You have to be a man when you win," Malone said after the game of his actions (via 247Sports). "And you have to be a man when you are defeated."

Hell yeah.

Losing sucks. No one wants to do it in the preseason let alone the national championship game, but it is something that comes with the game. As much as we may want to win every game eventually you are going to lose. So you better learn how to handle it.

Malone certainly even though some of his teammates have not.

"That's the definition of a Man of Oregon," Malone said (via 247Sports). "I feel like if it wasn't me another one of the leaders would have seen it and did the same thing."

While the scoreboard can be viewed as a measure of how you played how you handle defeat is a measure of the kind of man a player is. Teams love to have great players, but they love to mold great men even more.

It looks like Oregon has succeeded with Malone (and has some work to do with a few others).
